  • Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. I want to tell you a little bit today about a book which is one of my favourite stories and it’s this one here. It’s written by Michael Morpurgo and it’s called War Horse. For some of you, you would’ve heard me work on this and read it to you before. I did it about a year ago and I’ve decided to revisit this story because it’s such a fantastic story. It tells a story of a horse called Joey and it’s about his life and rather unusually the story is written through the eyes of the horse, the horse is the narrator in the story. And it tells us a lot about an event that happened over 100 years ago which was called the First World War. It was a really sad, terrible time and millions of people lost their lives. And it might be quite strange for you to think well why are there horses in war because today we don’t normally have horses in war. But during this time, the First World War, people still often fought on horseback. It’s a lovely story, it teaches so much, it has got some great bits of historical information which is always really useful to hold. But it’s also this wonderful, wonderful script. It really sorts of sings off the page to us, it’s so beautifully written. Michael Morpurgo is a fantastic author and he’s written so many books and I think this is probably his most famous. We’re going to look at lots of different themes and we’re going to learn new words and different ideas that come across in the story. But above all, it’s a great, great tale. It’s a lovely story to sort of know in your mind and its one of those stories that I think every single child in the whole of the world should read. And of course you can read it one your own and that’s fine but sometimes a bit of Guided Reading where I can steer you in the right direction and explain all the different characters and the different events that actually happened, it just helps you that little bit more. So I really hope you join us as we read this wonderful story and learn lots of new interesting facts. Michael Morpurgo, War Horse. Hopefully I will see you soon, thanks very much.
